Kappa Thoran (Tapioca Roast)

This dish is a whole meal in itself. Many people in Kerala have kappa(tapioca) for dinner. Tapioca is rich in carbohydrates.


1/2 kg tapioca(kappa)

1 onion finely chopped

1 tsp mustard seeds

3-4 green chillies(slit)

5-6 curry leaves

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp oil

salt to taste


Peel the tapioca & cut into bite size pieces.

Pressure cook with turmeric & salt till you hear 5-6 whistles.

Remove tapioca from cooker & allow to cool.

In a pan,heat 1 tsp oil. Add mustard seeds & wait for it to splutter. Add slit green chillies & curry leaves.

Add the chopped onions & saute till it begins to turn golden brown.

Add the cooked tapioca(kappa) & roast for a few mins.

Serve hot.
